First Office Visit

Your first visit is all about your child!!!

Along with the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, it is our recommendation that a child’s first dental visit to our office be scheduled by his/her 1st birthday. Yes, the 1st birthday! Prevention is the main goal of this appointment, as we will evaluate the development of your child’s mouth, make recommendations on the care of the mouth at this young age, and discuss ways to control or prevent any harmful habits.

At your child’s first visit one of our doctors will review your child’s health history and conduct a thorough clinical examination of the mouth, including, teeth, tongue and gums. We will also take any necessary digital x-rays and clean your child’s teeth. This is also the time when we will talk to your child about proper ways to brush and floss their teeth and how to make the best food choices.

Children are not born with a fear of the dentist, but they do fear the unknown. We are sensitive to children’s needs and it is our goal to make your child feel comfortable during his/her visits while providing the best dental care. We make a special effort to use simple, non-frightening words to describe our procedures, and we ask parents that they refrain from using any words like “needle”, “hurt”, “drill” as they can cause unnecessary fear and anxiety.

Our staff is highly experienced and we work with children of all ages. We strive to make every visit to our office healthful, educational and enjoyable for both the child and the parent.

You can make the first visit to the dentist enjoyable and positive. If old enough, your child should be informed of the visit and told that the dentist and their staff will explain all procedures and answer any questions.

By utilizing digital x-ray technology, we significantly reduce the level of radiation exposure your child receives. Finally, your child will be invited to choose a reward before you all head home with a smile.
